Thank you, Mr. UPS Delivery man

Today in the news, companies like UPS and Amazon are getting hammered late Christmas deliveries.[U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal] was among the few politicians joining the hammering. Never mind I always order early when I do the Christmas shopping and realize that the closer to Christmas when you order increases the chances you gift WILL be late for Christmas.

Where I am employ at we had different experience with UPS.com.

It was late Monday afternoon, a few days before Christmas, the Christmas season movie traffic had finally pick up. I was at my usually place, tearing movie tickets and directing the movie customers to their theaters when I spotted brown uniform dodging and weaving though the crowd he would have a Texan running back proud. It was our former UPS deliveryman and in his hand was our - our very late- Deluxe Movie box.

With strong steady stride he strolled up and thrust the Movie Box into my face,"This." he waved the box."was somehow put on my truck." he announced, then spun the box and scanned the ID tag into his UPS data pad. Then he place the box into the floor and handed me the word pad, which I quickly signed and then he was off with his UPS data pad in hand

Dodging and weaving out the door he went back to his new route, only then I remembered to call out. "Thank you, Mr UPS Delivery man!"

Slowly as my one of my managers walk up and pick up the Deluxe Movie box, I began to realize what the UPS Delivery man said,"This was somehow put on my truck." He had ridden 10 miles out of his way to the correct error. Instead of going back to the UPS truck barn and let some else delivery it the next day.

Customer Service !

"Thank you, Mr UPS Delivery man!"

How Habitat Works

Habitat for Humanity of Southern Brazoria County approaches the challenge of providing affordable homeownership opportunities to low-income families in an innovative way. Affordable homes are built using a large amount of volunteer labor, donated funds and materials. The homes are sold at no interest to qualifying low-income families.

Green Building Habitat for Humanity builds homes that are not only affordable, but also sustainable. Habitat builds using comprehensive green design. Many people think of solar panels when they think of green building, but the reality is that it encompasses much more. Green building is a whole house design that takes into account energy efficiency, smart use of building materials, water usage, and much more. Habitat builds green to take better care of the environment, Habitat homeowners and volunteers. Volunteering Volunteers play a critical role in our programs, and are involved in every aspect of our work, including:

Home construction

Work to select families

Support partner families in community building efforts

Drive fundraising efforts

Work on advocacy and community outreach

And more...

Habitat for Humanity of Southern Brazoria County recruits large numbers of volunteers to help construct Habitat homes, and in so doing strives to promote volunteerism as a collective community value.

House 88 Dedication was today. This the 88 home that the local Habitat for Humanity of Southern Brazoria County was build since 1990.
It was nice sunny day Sunday for the dedication. About 30 people showed up for dedication. This number was down from the last dedication, bit not surprising as this is the last house build until September 2013.

The reason that Habitat for Humanity takes a summer break is that local temperature is south Texas will reach about 101 degrees (F)by early August, which is way too hot to work in. Be early September it will cool down to the low 80's again and we shall continue to build Habitat homes again.

Mr brother-in-law and art of Shabu-shabu

My brother-in-law is a steak and potato man, meaning that his diet strictly steak and potatoes - no real vegetables, no lamb or other foreign foods, - just beef and potatoes until he met our family.

Being of Italian descendant my family ate different foods from around the world. The first time we introduce my brother-in-law to chop sticks he almost starved to death as the rest of us ate well. Fortunately my sister rescued him in time and taught him the art of eating chop sticks. "NO! Husband, put BOTH sticks in the same hand like my brother is doing! OH, Never mind, Can some PLEASE get him a fork, NOW?" :-)

It took my brother-in-law time to mastered the art of eating with chow sticks. Little did he realize at the time, that a few years later his wife's family dinner lessons would pay off in big way.

A few years ago, shortly after the earthquake in Japan my brother-in-law was sent to Japan to recover some equipment for his boss's company. The Japanese employees greeted them at Tokyo and then headed north to the job site.

After arriving the site, the Japanese men took put for dinner, too the Americans' surprise they sat down in front several large cooking bowls. "Guess what for dinner?" asked they Japanese host very proudly. My brother-in-law answered for everyone," Shabu-shabu?". Their Japanese host was very happy that he had chosen a dish that Americans had recognized. Of course, most Americans never heard, Shabu-shabu a Japanese soup. However, some have heard of Sukiyaki which the photo above look like. My brother-in-law later explained - to the other Americans -that was familiar with the dish because his wife's family served it to him, once!
